Michigan Contractor Law Class (1Hr)

This course covers the 1-hour law education requirement for Michigan contractors. We will discuss various legislation and code changes that affect contractors in the State of Michigan. This course will satisfy the 1-hour legal continued education criteria for license renewal.

• Executive orders in response to COVID-19
• OSHA regulatory standards
• COVID-19-related acts concerning liability
• Changes to commercial and residential Michigan Energy Code
• Minimum wage and medical leave changes
• Michigan contractors change orders and open records rights.

Michigan’s response to COVID-19 prompted a great deal of legislation so this course is not meant to be exhaustive. That said we will go into detail regarding new rules and procedures for the workplace, touching on some rulings specifically directed towards construction workers and contractors. MIOSHA has also laid out rules and regulations that are required for the liability protection that we explain later in this course. 

The course will also cover changes to the commercial and residential code. We will explain the details of these changes while providing reference to the original code. 

Next we will explain recent changes to the minimum wage and help you understand how this change has been implemented and how it will be further implemented in the future. 

The next topic is recent changes to medical leave regulations. We will explain how COVID-19 has influenced some of these changes, and what they mean to you. 

Finally we will discuss change order and open records rights. We will explain some issues that arise in change disputes and some of the best practices on how to solve them. We will conclude with a discussion of open records right and how to utilize them to gain access to bidders information.
